MICHIGAN — Three schools in the Ionia Public Schools District are closed Thursday after an educator was found dead on one of the school’s campuses Wednesday night, the Ionia Department of Public Safety (IDPS) reported.
A letter sent home to parents early Thursday morning confirmed the educator’s death and stated that Ionia High School, Welch High School, and Bulldog Beginnings Preschool would remain closed on Dec. 4. All other schools in the district are open as scheduled.
The district plans to provide grief counselors for students and staff on Friday. “It is with deep sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news that a beloved Ionia Public Schools educator was found deceased at school,” the letter read. “Everyone will process this tragic news in their own way; as a united community, we will support each other through these trying times.”
IDPS said there is no ongoing threat to the community, and the investigation into the educator’s death remains active.
