Virginia school closings and delays for Tuesday

VIRGINIA — Numerous schools across Virginia are reporting delayed openings or closings for Tuesday, December 2, due to inclement weather and safety concerns.

Many districts, including Alleghany Highlands, Amherst County, Auburn Baptist Christian Academy, Bath County, Bedford County, Buena Vista City, Campbell County, Carroll County, Craig County, Danville City, Floyd County, Franklin County, Galax City, Giles County, Grayson County, Halifax County, Henry County, Highland County, Lexington City, Lynchburg City, Martinsville City, Montgomery County, Nelson County, Pulaski County, Radford City, Roanoke County, Rockbridge County, Stuart Hall, VIA Schools, Grayson County Independence are opening two hours late.

Also Culpeper County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, Highland School, Saint James’ Episcopal School, Virginia Montessori Academy, Albemarle, and Louisa County are opening two hours late. Some schools, including Hope Tree Academy and Mountain Gateway Community College, will open later than usual, with start times at 10 a.m.

Other schools, such as Covenant Christian Academy and Pulaski County General District Court, will remain closed. Several private and specialized schools, including Bridge Christian Academy, Faith Christian Academy, Rockbridge Christian Academy, Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, and the Lil’ Ospreys Early Learning Center, are also operating on delayed schedules.

Officials are advising parents, students, and staff to check individual school websites for updates, exercise caution on winter-affected roads, and prioritize safety during morning commutes.
