KENTUCKY — A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from an Adairville police chief during a traffic stop and leading officers on a multi-state pursuit Saturday afternoon.
According to Adairville Police Chief Aaron Ashby, the incident began around 3:53 p.m. when he saw a red 2002 Chevy Silverado driving recklessly southbound on U.S. 431.
Ashby initiated a traffic stop near Smiths Grove Road, but the driver refused repeated orders to exit the vehicle. When Ashby reached inside to unlock the door, the teen reportedly tried to roll the window up with the chief’s arm still inside and then put the truck into drive.
The driver fled at high speed, crossing into Tennessee as Ashby pursued. The chase continued for about 10 miles until Robertson County and Springfield police attempted to deploy spike strips. The teen swerved to avoid them and turned onto Main Street in Springfield, where the truck overturned multiple times.
Police said the driver climbed out of the window and attempted to run, but an Adairville K-9 unit was deployed and the teen was taken into custody. No other passengers were in the vehicle.
The juvenile faces charges including first-degree wanton endangerment on a police officer, fleeing or evading police in a vehicle and on foot, resisting arrest, and several traffic violations. Ashby said no charges are pending in Tennessee.
The teen was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital and later released to a guardian.
