GEORGIA — A Rockdale County inmate remains at large after escaping from Grady Memorial Hospital and stealing a vehicle in Atlanta, authorities said.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Timothy Shane and warned the public he should be considered “armed and dangerous.” Shane was at Grady Memorial for a medical evaluation Sunday night following a suicide attempt and escaped around 1:20 a.m. Monday. Investigators are still determining how he got out.

After escaping, Shane allegedly stole an SUV at Piedmont Avenue and Auburn Avenue, but crashed it less than a mile away on Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard. The vehicle’s owner reported that a Glock handgun was taken during the theft.

Shane is described as about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a buzzed haircut. He was last seen wearing a hospital gown and no shoes. The sheriff’s office noted Shane has a history of fleeing and has prior felony drug and weapons charges.

Authorities urge anyone who sees Shane not to approach him and to call 911 or the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office at 770-278-8000.
