OHIO — Two pedestrians were killed Sunday evening after being hit by a vehicle on the southbound side of I-475 in Maumee.

The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m., according to a press release from authorities. Investigators said a 19-year-old driver was traveling south when the vehicle struck two people, ages 29 and 30, who were walking on the left shoulder near their disabled vehicle.

One pedestrian died at the scene. The second was taken to a hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

The crash shut down at least one lane of I-475 for most of the evening. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate, and said alcohol and drug impairment do not appear to be factors.
