VIRGINIA — One driver was killed early Sunday morning in a crash involving two tractor-trailers, a pickup truck and a car on Interstate 77, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 5:09 a.m. on Nov. 30 in the northbound lanes near mile marker 8. Investigators said the driver of a pickup truck was traveling north in the left lane when it struck the rear of a tractor-trailer. The pickup then veered off the left side of the highway and into the median.
Moments later, a Tesla moving from the left lane to the right lane hit a second tractor-trailer. The Tesla then re-entered the left lane and struck the first tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Tesla died at the scene. Their name has not yet been released.
State Police said wintry weather conditions are being considered as a possible factor in the crash. Northbound lanes of I-77 were blocked for several hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
