
VIRGINIA — One person was killed and three others were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 85, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. on Nov. 30 along I-85 South near the 61-mile marker at the Route 460 exit. Investigators said a white SUV traveling northbound went off the side of the interstate, struck multiple trees and caught fire.
One passenger was unable to escape the burning vehicle and died at the scene. The driver and another passenger were seriously injured and were flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.
State Police said a passerby who stopped to help suffered minor burns while attempting to rescue the trapped passenger. He drove himself to a local hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
