PENNSYLVANIA — Pennsylvania State Police are responding to two major crashes on I-70 and I-79 in Washington County on Thanksgiving night, urging drivers to avoid the affected areas.
Emergency dispatchers confirmed that the Washington County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene of the I-79 crash, located on the bridge over I-70 in South Strabane Township. The northbound crash involved multiple vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries. One person has been confirmed dead.
A second crash occurred on I-70 eastbound, where the Canton Township Volunteer Fire Company reported that a tractor-trailer jackknifed between Exit 15 (Chestnut Street) and Exit 16 (Jessop Place). The number of injuries from that incident remains unknown.
Traffic cameras showed major backups in both crash areas as emergency crews worked the scenes. Authorities continue to advise drivers to use alternate routes.
