OHIO — High winds ahead of incoming winter weather caused widespread power outages across Northeast Ohio on Wednesday, according to FirstEnergy.

By 4 p.m., the utility reported 2,767 outages in Cuyahoga County, with most affecting Euclid and Richmond Heights. Geauga County saw 3,386 outages, largely in Burton and Middlefield townships. Lake County reported 954 outages, primarily in Willoughby Hills. Several estimated restoration times extended into the evening.

Most of the thousands of outages earlier reported in Summit and Lorain counties were resolved by late afternoon.

Cleveland Public Power also reported up to 500 outages in the Broadway-Slavic Village and Union-Miles neighborhoods. More than 1,000 outages that affected several southeast Cleveland neighborhoods earlier in the day have since been restored.

Smaller clusters of outages were reported across other Northeast Ohio counties as wind gusts reached up to 50 mph. Multiple counties remain under wind, winter storm, and lake effect snow warnings.
