FLORIDA — Two people were killed and two teenagers were seriously injured after a crash Sunday evening in Apopka, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the collision occurred just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Alexandria Place Drive.
An 18-year-old Apopka man was driving a Ford Mustang south on Rock Springs Road at a high rate of speed, with a 17-year-old boy in the passenger seat.
As the Mustang approached the intersection, a van driven by a 63-year-old man was traveling north in the left-turn lane and attempting to turn west onto Alexandria Place Drive. According to investigators, the van turned directly into the path of the Mustang, which then struck the right side of the van.
Two Apopka residents riding in the van — an 81-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman — were fatally injured. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman later died at a hospital.
The Mustang’s driver and passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The 17-year-old passenger is listed in critical condition, troopers said. The van’s driver remained at the scene and was not transported.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the investigation remains ongoing.
