VIRGINIA — Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that left one person dead and two others seriously injured Wednesday evening.
According to VSP, the collision occurred at 6:12 p.m. at the intersection of Chatham Road and Beulah Road.
Investigators said a 2002 GMC Yukon traveling west on Chatham Road was unable to avoid a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria that pulled into the intersection. There is a stop sign on Beulah Road, but not on Chatham Road, authorities noted.
The driver of the Crown Victoria, 87-year-old Jesse Rone of Nathalie, died at the scene. A passenger, 83-year-old Anna Rone, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the Yukon, 28-year-old Jonathan Doss of Vernon Hill, also sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
State police say the crash remains under investigation.
