OHIO — Local law enforcement agencies will conduct sobriety checkpoints across Summit County on the night before Thanksgiving, one of the busiest bar nights of the year.
Often referred to as “Blackout Wednesday” or “Drunksgiving,” the evening before the holiday sees a sharp increase in alcohol-related activity.
In a media release, the Summit County OVI Task Force announced it will operate checkpoints on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, continuing into the early hours of Thursday, Nov. 27.
Sobriety checkpoints are permitted under a 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, provided agencies follow specific guidelines, including notifying the public in advance.
Officials have not yet released the exact times or locations of the planned checkpoints.
