GEORGIA — Two people were killed early Thursday morning after a wrong-way driver crashed into a minivan on Interstate 285 eastbound near Buford Highway, authorities said.

The crash occurred just after 4 a.m. Fire officials reported that the wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the minivan were transported to the hospital, and one of them later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to Doraville police, the driver initially went up the exit ramp on Buford Highway, crashed into a vehicle there, and then entered the interstate going the wrong way before colliding with the minivan. Fire officials said there were no reported injuries from the first crash on the ramp.

Interstate 285 was reduced to one left lane for several hours but fully reopened just before 7:30 a.m. The incident remains under investigation.
