NORTH CAROLINA — A shooting investigation led to the closure of U.S. Highway 64 West near the intersection of Lizard Lick Road on Thursday, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the area and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As a result of the investigation, U.S. 64 between Lizard Lick Road and Rolesville Road has been shut down. Officials are urging drivers to use alternate routes, including NC 97.
Traffic camera footage showed a heavy presence of first responders and significant backup behind the closure. According to a traffic alert, the scene is expected to be cleared around 11:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
