NORTH CAROLINA — A man is in life-threatening condition following a stabbing Tuesday afternoon at a west Asheville apartment complex, according to Asheville police.
Officers responded to Ascent Apartment Homes on Ascension Drive around 3:12 p.m. on Nov. 18 after receiving a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, police found a man in the parking lot with multiple knife wounds to his upper body and head. Officers provided medical assistance until EMS transported the victim to Mission Hospital.
Detectives said the victim identified the suspect, who was still inside an apartment. Police entered the unit and took the individual into custody without incident.
APD Captain Joe Silberman said that the stabbing stemmed from a dispute among several people, which investigators believe was over the ownership of a cat.
The victim remains in very serious condition. No charges have been filed as detectives continue interviewing all parties involved. The department is working with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, and a formal update on charges is expected later this week or early next week.
Police say the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Asheville Police at 828-252-1110. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the TIP2APD app or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
