OHIO — A North Ridgeville High School student died Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Lorain Road, according to the North Ridgeville Police Department.
The victim, identified as 16-year-old Violet Gustafson, was hit near the McDonald’s around 6 p.m. First responders arrived to find the teen injured and immediately began administering first aid. She was transported to St. John Westshore Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Gustafson was a junior at North Ridgeville High School. In a letter to families, the district said the loss has left the school community heartbroken.
“This unimaginable loss has deeply affected our entire school community, and our hearts are heavy as we grieve together,” the district wrote. “Please keep this student’s family in your thoughts and hold them close in your hearts as they face this devastating loss.”
The district said a crisis team and school counselors will be available at the high school beginning Tuesday to support students.
Police closed Lorain Road on Monday night as detectives continued their investigation into the crash.
