
KENTUCKY — The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a Campbell County School District bus that occurred Thursday afternoon on U.S. 27 near Spillman Drive.
According to police, the collision happened around 2:28 p.m. on November 14, 2025, when a vehicle driven by Donald M. Weinel, 42, of Newport, struck a school bus traveling south on U.S. 27. The bus was carrying twelve students and a bus monitor at the time.
One student was taken to a hospital by EMS with minor injuries.
Officers said their initial investigation showed Weinel was under the influence at the time of the crash. He was arrested and charged with one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence (Aggravated Circumstance), fourteen counts of Wanton Endangerment First Degree (Class D Felony), and one count of Criminal Mischief First Degree (Class D Felony).
The Alexandria Police Department was assisted at the scene by Campbell County Police and Campbell County Fire/Rescue.
