Sobriety checkpoints planned in part of Ohio Friday

OHIO — Law enforcement officers in Stark County will be conducting sobriety checkpoints this Friday, November 14, to identify and apprehend impaired drivers.

Two checkpoints are planned: the first will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the 4400 block of Louisville Street NE in Plain Township. The second checkpoint will run from 8:30 to 11 p.m. on the 200 block of N. Wood Street in East Canton, located in Osnaburg Township.

According to a county announcement, “Officers will conduct roadside checks of drivers for alcohol and drug impairment and will be vigilant in detecting and apprehending impaired drivers. Remember: Impaired driving is never acceptable.”

Final locations for the checkpoints will be publicly announced on Friday. Sobriety checkpoints are legal under a 1990 Supreme Court ruling, provided they follow guidelines that include public notification.
