FLORIDA — A Sumter County school employee was arrested Thursday night for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sumter County School District identified the suspect as Madelyn Mead, 26, a paraprofessional at Wildwood Middle High School. Mead had been employed by the district since 2019.
District officials said Mead was immediately removed from her position and is no longer employed by Sumter County Schools.
“If anyone chooses to harm or take advantage of a child, we will address it immediately and work directly with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office to ensure they are held fully accountable and never placed in a position to work with students again,” the district said in a Facebook post.
Mead faces charges related to engaging in a romantic relationship with a student and has been denied bond. The investigation is ongoing.
