OHIO — The last remnant of the once-thriving Richmond Town Square mall is set to come down.
Demolition of the former Sears building at 691 Richmond Road will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 8 a.m., according to California-based development company DealPoint Merrill.
The Sears building, which once served as an anchor store for the mall, marks the end of an era for the property.
Richmond Town Square, like many malls across the country, faced declining foot traffic in recent years, eventually leading to its closure.
DealPoint Merrill plans to transform the site into the $450 million Belle Oaks Marketplace, a modern lifestyle center featuring apartments, stores, and restaurants.
The demolition of the Sears building will clear the way for the project’s first phase, which focuses on residential construction.
Details on how long the demolition will take have not been provided.
Belle Oaks Marketplace is being touted as a significant redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing the area with mixed-use spaces that cater to contemporary living and retail demands.
