OHIO — A 37-year-old man was arrested after police say he assaulted a child sitting in a shopping cart at a Meijer store on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the Meijer in the 7700 block of Broadview Road, according to the Seven Hills Police Department. Family members intervened and were able to pull the child away and leave the store safely.
Officers said the suspect was taken into custody inside the store, though he did not immediately comply and threw merchandise before being detained.
Police said the man, who is nonverbal and has autism, has been charged with assault. Authorities did not release his name. No additional details about the child’s injuries were provided.
The case remains under investigation.
