OHIO — A 19-year-old man is in custody after police said he posted a threat on social media to carry out a shooting at a local school.

According to the Kettering Police Department, officers were contacted around 11:30 p.m. Thursday by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which had received information from the FBI National Threat Operations Center.

The tip involved a Snapchat post threatening to “shoot up the school next to Skyline Chili” on Wilmington Pike.

Police identified the account as belonging to 19-year-old Austin Clark. Officers, with assistance from Dayton Police, went to Clark’s residence around 12:30 a.m. Friday, where he was taken into custody without incident. Clark was booked into the Kettering Jail on a charge of making terroristic threats.

Police said they have found no evidence suggesting Clark had the means to carry out the threat and believe there is no ongoing danger to the community. Kettering Police are coordinating with Kettering City Schools and the district’s school resource officer during the investigation.

“We hope this incident serves as a reminder that serious statements such as this, whether made with intent or out of recklessness, will always be taken seriously, and those responsible will be held fully accountable,” a department spokesperson said.
