OVI checkpoint planned for part of Ohio on Friday

OHIO — Law enforcement officials in Mahoning County plan to conduct an OVI (operating a vehicle impaired) checkpoint on Friday, November 7, authorities said.

The checkpoint will be carried out by the Mahoning County OVI Task Force and will include saturation patrols to monitor impaired driving. Officials did not release the exact location or time of the checkpoint, saying those details will be announced the day of the operation.

According to the task force, the goal of OVI checkpoints is to help make roadways safer by identifying impaired drivers.

A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requires drivers to be notified of sobriety checkpoints in advance to protect against illegal searches and seizures, though the Court did not specify what qualifies as adequate notification.
