MICHIGAN — A motorcyclist died Monday afternoon following a crash at the intersection of E. William Street and Pine Street, police said.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. Investigators reported that 34-year-old Brandon Summerlin of Michigan City was traveling south on Pine Street when another vehicle attempted to turn onto Pine from William Street in front of him.

Summerlin braked suddenly, causing him to fall off his motorcycle and land on the pavement. Police said he was not struck by the other vehicle.

Summerlin, who was not wearing a helmet or protective gear, was flown to a hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital for a chemical test, as required by Indiana law following crashes that result in death or serious injury. Results are pending.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has video to contact lead investigator Officer Daniel Revoir at 219-874-3221 or via email at drevoir@emichigancity.com.
