GEORGIA — A 9-year-old child witnessed a murder-suicide inside a Flowery Branch home Saturday afternoon, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a residence in the 5400 block of Bushnell Court just before 3 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a 50-year-old woman dead near the doorway and the suspected 51-year-old gunman deceased in the basement.
The sheriff’s office said the child, who was unharmed, was hiding in an upstairs bedroom closet during the incident. Investigators reported that the child saw the shooting and FaceTimed a friend, who told their parents, prompting them to call 911.
Authorities said the woman was shot multiple times, while the gunman died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. Names of those involved have not been released pending notification of out-of-state next-of-kin.
The Department of Family and Children’s Services assisted with the child’s placement, who was later released to a family member.
