OHIO — Rescue crews have recovered the body of a 71-year-old man who fell into Lake Erie while fishing off the rocks behind the Edgewater Yacht Club.
The victim, identified as Tak Yun Wong of Independence, fell into the water just after 6 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses reported seeing Wong struggling in waves estimated between four and six feet high.
Cleveland firefighters said Wong was already deceased when they arrived, but dangerous water conditions prevented them from safely bringing him to shore that evening.
Cleveland Metroparks police returned to Edgewater Park Wednesday morning and recovered Wong’s body. Cleveland Fire, Cleveland EMS, and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted in the recovery efforts.
