OHIO — Authorities are investigating a wrong-way crash involving an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser that occurred late Saturday night in Athens Township.
Troopers responded around 11:50 p.m. to U.S. Route 50, just west of Hopper Road, after receiving reports of a collision.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it struck a patrol cruiser head-on. The Pontiac then continued forward and hit a Ford Fiesta.
The driver of the Pontiac was taken to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper was also transported to the same hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released. The driver of the Ford was treated at the scene for a minor injury.
Investigators said impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash, and charges are expected to be filed. The incident remains under investigation.
