Indiana nurse practitioner arrested in prescription fraud investigation

INDIANA — A Carmel-based nurse practitioner has been arrested following an eight-month investigation into fraudulent prescription practices.

Katherine Curtis, 34, was taken into custody Thursday by detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Carmel Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Authorities said the investigation began earlier this year after several pharmacies reported concerns that Curtis, a licensed nurse practitioner, was overprescribing medications and issuing fraudulent prescriptions.

Detectives said their review, including interviews and other evidence, indicates that Curtis not only overprescribed medications but also wrote prescriptions under the identities of other nurse practitioners.

Curtis faces multiple charges related to the alleged fraudulent drug practices. The investigation is ongoing.
