PENNSYLVANIA — Two people were killed Monday afternoon after being struck by a bus at a busy intersection in Indiana Borough, according to police.
The Indiana Borough Police Department said officers were called around 2 p.m. to the intersection of Philadelphia Street and Seventh Street for reports of a crash involving pedestrians and a vehicle.
Investigators said an IndiGO bus hit 68-year-old Ronald Lynn Mabon and 39-year-old Christina Marie Perez as they were crossing the street. Perez died at the scene, while Mabon later died after being taken to a hospital.
Police said it remains unclear whether the pedestrian crossing signal was active or if the traffic light had turned green when the collision occurred. The investigation is ongoing.
Monday’s fatal crash comes months after another pedestrian was killed and one injured in March when a delivery truck struck them on the 800 block of Philadelphia Street.
In a statement, Indiana Borough officials said the latest incident is “unacceptable” and reaffirmed their commitment to safety.
“We are at our best when we can be proactive to prevent crashes and crime, but we are also committed to conducting thorough and professional investigations in pursuit of justice when neither is avoided,” the statement said. “Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of everyone we serve — so one crash is too many, and any loss of life is unacceptable to us.”
Police said the investigation into the March crash is nearing completion, and the investigation into Monday’s incident remains active.
