FLORIDA — A 71-year-old man is dead and another person injured after a head-on collision Wednesday night in Astor, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Troopers say the crash happens just after 8:30 p.m. on State Road 40 when a 2002 Cadillac Escalade, driven by the 71-year-old man, crosses the centerline into the eastbound lane and begins traveling the wrong way.
The Escalade collides head-on with an eastbound 2025 Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer.
The Escalade driver is pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver, a 49-year-old man, is not injured. A 25-year-old passenger in the semi is taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
FHP advises drivers to use County Road 445 as a detour while the crash remains under investigation.
