NORTH CAROLINA — A person was killed early Wednesday morning in a fiery crash on U.S. 64 West near Lizard Lick Road, authorities said.
Zebulon Fire Department crews, State Highway Patrol troopers and Wake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and shut down the westbound lanes of U.S. 64 near the Lizard Lick Road exit while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.
Around 6 a.m., a tow truck removed a heavily burned car that had become entangled in a tree and caught fire.
A medical examiner was called to the scene. Officials confirmed that at least one person died in the crash.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
