SOUTH CAROLINA — A 15-year-old student at Carvers Bay High School has been charged after allegedly making a threat to “shoot up the school,” authorities said.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies received information late Tuesday night that the student made the threat during lunch earlier in the day.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and searched the student’s home to determine if weapons were accessible.

As a precaution, additional deputies were stationed at Carvers Bay High on Wednesday morning. The Georgetown County School District Safety Department also assisted.

The student faces disciplinary action from the school district in addition to criminal charges. The case remains under investigation.
