ALABAMA — Four people were arrested outside Fountain Correctional Facility after officers allegedly found drugs and contraband during a traffic stop, the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) said.

An ADOC K-9 unit stopped a car near the prison on Saturday for a traffic violation. As an officer approached, he reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana. A search of the vehicle uncovered a T-shirt launcher, narcotics, and cell phones.

Items seized included eight cell phones, 248 grams of marijuana, and 30 grams of synthetic cannabinoids.

The suspects were identified as Haleigh Baskin, 23, Jermain Fitzpatrick, 43, Nazaree Haslam, 23, and Amber Crawford, 42. Each was charged with two counts of attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, first-degree possession of marijuana, prohibited activities, and possession of synthetic cannabinoids.

Crawford also faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance-ecstasy, while Haslam was charged with false identity to obstruct justice. Authorities said Haslam and Baskin had outstanding warrants from other agencies.

All four suspects were taken to the Escambia County Jail. ADOC officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
