SOUTH CAROLINA — A man was arrested Tuesday morning following a stabbing in the Hartsville area of Darlington County, according to Sheriff Michael August.
Deputies responded around 10 p.m. Monday to a call on Ashland Road regarding a domestic situation.
When they arrived, the suspect had fled, and officers found a victim with multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said.
Using drones from Darlington and Chesterfield counties, along with bloodhounds from Darlington County and the Hartsville Police Department, deputies located Melvin Justin Atkinson hiding in a vehicle near Clyde School Road. Atkinson was arrested at the scene and is being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.
Atkinson faces charges of attempted murder. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
