VIRGINIA — A 63-year-old man was arrested Saturday after a pursuit with Henry County deputies, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they received reports around 4:40 p.m. of a reckless driver in a sedan “swerving across the roadway and nearly striking several vehicles.” Authorities later located the vehicle on Virginia Avenue near Stultz Road, where the driver failed to stay in his lane and ignored attempts to initiate a traffic stop.

Deputies engaged in a low-speed pursuit, with speeds averaging about 35 mph. Law enforcement positioned vehicles in front of the suspect to bring the chase to a safe stop. The pursuit ended on Commonwealth Boulevard after the suspect’s car struck the rear of a deputy’s vehicle.

The driver, identified as Eric Williams, was taken into custody without incident. He faces charges of felony elude police, driving under the influence, driving without a license, failure to maintain lane, and insufficient tread depth.

Williams is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
