INDIANA — A 29-year-old man is dead following a shooting Friday night in Bloomington, according to police.
The Bloomington Police Department said officers responded to the intersection of West Howe and South Morton streets just before 10 p.m. on a report of a possible shooting. A caller reported hearing screams, a gunshot, and seeing a person on the ground.
When officers arrived, they found the man with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he later died.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a disturbance between the victim and the driver of a dark-colored sedan near the intersection.
Police said the suspect got out of the car, shot the man, then got back inside and sped off north on Madison Street. Witnesses reported hearing a woman screaming inside the suspect’s vehicle as it left the area.
Police said they do not believe the suspect and the victim knew each other.
Residents in the neighborhood are asked to review any security camera footage for possible sightings of the suspect’s car. Anyone with information is urged to call the Bloomington Police Department at (812) 339-4477 and ask for Det. Chris Scott.
