KENTUCKY — One person was killed and another hospitalized following a crash Friday morning in Burlington, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 4 a.m. at the intersection of East Bend Road and Possum Path Road. Authorities said a car traveling west failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line, and veered off the roadway, striking a tree. The vehicle overturned, blocking both sides of the road.
The driver, 48-year-old Matthew Combs of Burlington, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was extricated and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said speed may have been a contributing factor. Combs was not wearing a seat belt, while the passenger was. Alcohol and drug impairment have not yet been determined. The Accident Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the collision. The roadway has since reopened.
