NORTH CAROLINA — A passenger is dead and a driver is in custody following an assault inside a car along Interstate 26 early Tuesday, police said.
Officers responded around 3:20 a.m. to a report of a vehicle stopped on the side of the interstate near Exit 33. When they arrived, they found the passenger had been seriously assaulted and died at the scene.
Police said the driver remained inside the car but was taken into custody after negotiations. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
