TENNESSEE — A Nashville man and a Chattanooga woman are facing multiple charges after Chattanooga police discovered a stolen firearm, marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs in a car Saturday night, authorities said.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of Poplar Street Court and found 27-year-old Tyquan Vaughn standing at the driver’s side of a Ford Fusion.

Vaughn, a convicted felon, initially ignored police and walked into an apartment. Officers then noticed a gun in the driver’s seat, later confirmed to be stolen. Vaughn was arrested after exiting the apartment.

During the arrest, 18-year-old Tarah Hayes got into the driver’s seat. Police saw her attempt to hide a baggie and took her into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed a red backpack with a large bag of marijuana and a scale, as well as cocaine and pills in the center console and passenger seat.

Hayes faces a charge of tampering with or fabricating evidence. Vaughn faces multiple charges, including theft of property, aggravated criminal trespass, possessing a firearm with intent to go armed, possession of Schedule II controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were taken to the Hamilton County Jail.
