
VIRGINIA — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Route 288 that left a 65-year-old woman dead late Saturday night.
Troopers were called to the scene at 10:42 p.m. on Sept. 20 after reports of a two-vehicle collision near Tuckahoe Creek Parkway.
According to investigators, a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 288 crossed the grass median and struck a southbound vehicle head-on.
The driver of the southbound vehicle, identified as Cynthia Diggs, 65, of Maidens, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her vehicle was taken to VCU Medical Center with injuries.
The driver and passenger in the northbound vehicle were also transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment, police said.
The Virginia Department of Transportation reported that all southbound lanes were shut down following the crash but reopened around 3:45 a.m. Sunday.
State police say the crash remains under investigation.
