NORTH CAROLINA — Authorities say a plane crashed Wednesday afternoon near the Iotla Valley campus in Macon County, killing everyone on board.

According to the school district, the crash occurred on a property neighboring the campus. Officials confirmed that all students and staff at the school were safe.

Emergency management reported that there were no survivors from the aircraft, though the exact number of people on board has not been released.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
