KENTUCKY — A 22-year-old Smiths Grove man faces multiple charges following a high-speed vehicle pursuit Tuesday night, Kentucky State Police said.

Troopers received a call just before 10 p.m. reporting that a vehicle had struck a tractor-trailer and failed to stop. The incident occurred on Interstate 65 northbound near the 11-mile marker.

Authorities said the caller reported the vehicle was traveling at 90 mph, swerving, and had its flashers on. Troopers observed the car pass their patrol vehicle at 101 mph in a 70 mph zone with flashers still activated. When a trooper attempted to stop the vehicle using lights and sirens, it continued at high speed.

The vehicle eventually stopped on Cemetery Road near Castle Heights Road, and the driver, Michael Steele, was taken into custody without further incident. Steele was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green before being transferred to the Warren County Regional Jail.

Steele faces multiple charges, including first-degree fleeing or evading police, leaving the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle under the influence (first offense), reckless driving, menacing, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving on a suspended or revoked license, speeding more than 26 mph over the limit, improper passing, and disregarding a stop sign.
