KENTUCKY — A Kentucky man is facing numerous charges after leading state police on a chase Sunday night that ended on Lake Cumberland Road.
According to an arrest citation, 33-year-old Cassey Crank was pursued by a Kentucky State Police trooper after his Ford pickup truck was seen speeding on Highway 461 near the Rockcastle and Pulaski County line. The truck reportedly had only one working headlight and one taillight.
Police said the vehicle accelerated when the trooper attempted to stop it, sparking a chase that lasted about a mile and a half. During the pursuit, Crank allegedly drove recklessly and was seen throwing an item out of the passenger window.
The chase ended when Crank pulled into the emergency lane and surrendered without further incident. When questioned, he allegedly admitted to having about a pound of marijuana in the truck.
A search of the vehicle uncovered three vacuum-sealed bags containing a large quantity of suspected marijuana. Officers also recovered a ziplock bag with about an ounce of suspected methamphetamine in the area where Crank was seen discarding something.
According to the citation, Crank declined a field sobriety test, telling the trooper, “I’ll take the DUI.”
Crank was charged with speeding, driving with only one headlight, improper lane use, fleeing police, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, wanton endangerment of a police officer, trafficking methamphetamine, and trafficking marijuana.
He was booked into the Rockcastle County Detention Center.
