VIRGINIA — King William High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning after a social media post suggested a student might have a weapon, according to the school district.
Officials said a student reported the post to school staff on the morning of Sept. 5, prompting immediate security measures. The student who allegedly made the threat was taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed the student did not have a weapon on their person or among their belongings.
Due to the lockdown occurring as students were arriving, some were kept on school buses in a secure location, while student drivers were sent back to their vehicles.
As of 10:05 a.m., King William High School remained on lockdown, and nearby Hamilton Holmes Middle School was on hold. Law enforcement, including canines, searched the campuses but found no weapon.
Sheriff Thomas Lumpkin said the student was taken to Merrimack Juvenile Detention Center. Charges are still pending, and officials confirmed that all students and staff are safe.
