SOUTH CAROLINA — A 19-year-old man has been arrested following a carjacking attempt that occurred Sunday morning, according to police.
Authorities say Nyori Devonte Ziquan Humbert of Darlington is charged with carjacking and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The incident happened around 11:45 a.m. on Waverly Avenue, when the victim picked up Humbert to give him a ride.
Police said Humbert pulled out a firearm and demanded the vehicle. The victim drove into a gas station, where a struggle ensued. Humbert eventually fled the scene without the car.
Investigators noted the victim recorded part of the incident and that the two men had met only once before.
Humbert was located Wednesday near Coit Street and Evans Street and taken into custody. He is being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
