TENNESSEE — Two men were arrested Thursday night after Metro Nashville detectives reported witnessing a drug transaction that led to a pursuit on Interstate 24.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, TITANS Unit detectives observed an apparent drug deal on South 6th Street before attempting to stop a Nissan Altima.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Anthony L. Powell, refused to stop. An MNPD helicopter tracked the vehicle until officers deployed spike strips.

Powell and his passenger, 20-year-old Deonquae Scott, then fled on foot near the Briley Parkway entrance ramp. Both were taken into custody shortly afterward.

Detectives said they recovered two handguns along the interstate and found 13.3 grams of cocaine and a digital scale inside the vehicle.

Powell was charged with evading arrest by motor vehicle, evading arrest, gun possession during the commission of a felony, and cocaine possession. He was also wanted on an outstanding domestic violence warrant. Police noted Powell was previously convicted in December 2024 of felony drug possession and unlawful gun possession, receiving a five-year probated sentence.

Scott was charged with evading arrest and misdemeanor drug possession after police said he had a pill without a prescription. He was previously convicted of felony evading in July and received a two-year probated sentence. Scott was released on a $4,000 bond.
