NORTH CAROLINA — A man who previously took a plea deal for selling drugs in Edgecombe County has been arrested again on drug trafficking charges, the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office said.

The investigation, which concluded Wednesday, focused on the sale of fentanyl pills in the Tarboro area and led deputies to 27-year-old Marques Higgs.

Deputies said Higgs was previously involved in a 2020 heroin investigation in the county and had accepted a plea deal on those charges.

Detectives located Higgs at a home in Battleboro and waited for him to leave. With several active warrants at the time, deputies took him into custody during a traffic stop.

Higgs was charged with two counts of trafficking opium/heroin, two counts of selling opium/heroin, and two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or distribute opium/heroin. He was taken to the Edgecombe County Jail and posted a $100,000 bond.
