NORTH CAROLINA — Three teenagers were taken into custody early Tuesday following a string of car break-ins in Cary that ended with two separate crashes, police said.
Around 2:45 a.m., officers responded to reports of four vehicles broken into at an apartment complex on Ansley Stream Lane, off N.C. Highway 55. On the way, officers spotted two Kias matching descriptions of the suspects’ vehicles. Both were later confirmed stolen.
Police attempted to stop the cars, but the drivers fled. One white Kia continued on N.C. 55 into Apex and collided with an SUV near Salem Street and Apex Peakway. Two juveniles were arrested at the scene, and one was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The SUV driver was not hurt.
The second Kia entered U.S. Highway 1 in Cary and exited at Walnut Street before crashing near the Olive Garden at Crossroads Plaza. A juvenile was arrested there, police said.
The suspects, all under the age of 17, have not been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.
