OHIO — A 97-year-old Hillsboro man was killed and three others were injured in a crash Sunday morning in Highland County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred at about 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of Ohio 138 and Mad River Road in New Market Township.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling south on Mad River Road failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse traveling northeast on Ohio 138. Both vehicles ran off the southeast corner of the intersection.

A passenger in the Chevrolet, identified as David S. Ayers, 97, of Hillsboro, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the Chevrolet were also injured. A 78-year-old Hillsboro woman was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with serious injuries, while a 58-year-old Hillsboro woman was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, a 43-year-old woman from Georgetown, Kentucky, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
