OHIO — A beloved holiday tradition returns this year as the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad launches its annual Santa Train rides.
For over 40 years, families have flocked to the event, which has become a staple of festive celebrations in the region.
The Santa Train kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 30, and will run each Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 22.
Passengers can choose from two daytime departures at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., with evening rides available at 6 p.m. on select dates: Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 8, 13, 14, 20, and 21.
The train has garnered national attention on social media with Facebook pages such as Ohio Foodies sharing the annual train with its followers.
A recent post from the page about the train garnered a large amount of engagement.
The journey departs from the Nelsonville Depot and offers a round-trip experience to East Logan and back.
A highlight for many children is the chance to meet Santa Claus, who will board the train and visit with each child during the ride.
Children are encouraged to bring their Christmas wish lists to share with Santa, and each young passenger will receive a candy cane treat after their visit.
Each coach is fully heated and decked out in holiday decorations, inside and out.
Christmas music fills the air, adding to the festive atmosphere as the train travels through the picturesque Hocking River Valley, which could be snow-covered for an extra touch of winter magic.
Due to the event’s popularity, tickets often sell out quickly. Families are encouraged to book early to secure their spot on this cherished holiday adventure.
